Earth day on the island

You give a little love and it all comes back to you.
The start of Earth Day in the UK has resulted in me having the Coca Cola ad (the one that starts as Grand Theft auto and then turns into the happiest little jingle...) in my head. I'm not sure that Earth Day and large branded corporation should mix so well, but what can you do? Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks the way Earth Day is going is a bit strange.... (I still think it's a good idea though!)

Earth day here seems similar to the one in Canada without as much hoopla or publicity. Trees are being planted, firms are going out to clean up the trash, the Thames river has a clean-up etc.

But this reminds me - there are no trash cans within the city (or limited few). Even liverpool street station had to remove all of theirs due to 'security risks'. I'm not sure if this really helped the environment out as now I have to walk all the way back to my office to put anything into recycling or the garbage. Needless to say, lots of people don't put that effort in and you see loads of garbage littered on the street. Apparently security and environment can't mesh.
