Elle magazine UK recently gave out free cloth bags stating "Plastic ain't my bag". It was a play-off on the recent anya hindmarch bag "I'm not a plastic bag". That was sold at Topshop and quickly sold out at Holt Renfrew. It was a nice idea by Elle, and I have seen the bag on several grocery shoppers in the past month. It was packaged by recycled plastic and was biodegradable so Elle UK didn't contradict themselves.
However, some of the people carrying the bag should take a significant double take at its message. You can not fit 3 plastic bags into the cloth bag that disagrees with the idea of plastic. It was quite angering to see two women do that this morning on my tube ride. If you are going to use the cloth, suck it up and realize that once and a while that means you have to wash it if you put something dirty inside. Maybe people like pretending they support the message without knowing what it means.
